Soapstone Countertop Sales and Installation
Composition
Soapstone is a naturally quarried material that is metamorphic, like marble, and comes from magnesium rich mineral talc.
Soapstone is softer than granite but harder than some marble. Soapstone is considered low maintenance, but can also be susceptible to scratches, chips, and gouges, and may show more wear and tear over time than other surfaces. Can be easily sanded to remove scratches.
Appearance
Color options are more limited with Soapstone than with some other natural stone materials. Its colors vary from light gray and darker black, some with green and blue undertones, and may have a marbled look with light veining that contrasts with a dark background. Soapstone surfaces can be oiled to darken the stone.
Care & Maintenance
Use a soft cloth or sponge with warm water and mild dish soap. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue. Spills should be cleaned promptly to prevent staining, and protective items such as coasters, trivets, and mats are recommended. Soapstone requires minimal regular maintenance. Soapstone can be sanded to remove scratches, and it can be oiled to darken the stone and enhance its veining. Counter Craft will use Lifetime Sealer on your countertop at the time of installation which will cover the lifespan of your countertop and will not need reapplication.
